Wera Tools British Kart Championship, Silverstone, October 9-10

In preparation for a full season attack next year, Felix Tandy took on the final two rounds of the Wera Tools British Kart Championship, at the iconic Silverstone kart circuit. Nearly thirty of the top cadet class drivers in the UK took part in two days of action, with Tandy scoring a memorable fifth place finish in the Round 5 Final, backed up with an impressive run to eleventh in Round 6

Round 5

Qualifying 19th

Final 5th

Round 6

Qualifying 20th

Final 11th

Short, four lap, qualifying sessions for both days showed a need to quickly warm up the kart and tyres for a good lap, something the heavier and more experienced drivers managed better than Tandy. However with lessons learnt and longer heats and finals hopes were still high.

A solid heat one and a top ten in heat two, saw Tandy starting fifteenth for a now very wet final. A spectacular opening lap had Felix already into seventh, with pace in the wet conditions to match. A measured drive throughout the ten lap run, Felix picked off more rivals before coming home with his first top five result in the British Championship.

Round 6 followed a similar story, with steady results in the heats, followed by an excellent Micromax final. A flash rain shower just as the race started had the drivers slithering around on their slick tyres, but Tandy took full advantage making up ten positions on lap one and was quickly into eighth position. As the track dried, other drivers found their feet but Felix kept his head, capping a great weekend crossing the line in eleventh.

Tandy stormed to pole position on both days of the S1 weekend, one held in very wet conditions, one in typical summer sunshine, the Academy driver showing his pace potential against the regular championship competitors.

Some fantastic racing on both days saw Felix take two heat victories, but also face some harder luck in the meeting finals to miss out on the top spots.

TKC Round 6

Qualifying 6th

With The Kart Championship staging it’s finale at one of Felix’s home tracks at Whilton Mill, the Bedfordshire driver took to the entry list with high hopes against a very competitive field of drivers.

A solid qualifying run was bettered in the heat races, with storming drives to second and third place finishes. However Tandy’s kart was found to be 200g underweight after heat 1, resulting in a place further down on the grid for the meeting final.

Undeterred, and with a spectacular opening lap for Tandy, another cracking micromax race took place, with the top three drivers in a fierce battle for the podium places – Tandy eventually coming home with a hard-fought second placed trophy.

Two very successful away weekends gives huge confidence for Felix’s push for the final rounds of his own championship battle coming soon.

Tandy set the fastest time in Saturday qualifying, with a combined cadet class grid of Rotax Micromax, plus the Honda powered cadet drivers all competing on track at the same time. This meant even though Tandy’s JTR prepared kart was fastest overall, he and his fellow Rotax class competitors would start all the event’s races at the rear of the Honda pack.

Not put off, and seeing another challenge ahead, Felix got to work in the weekend’s heat races, storming through the field in both heat one and two to overtake seventeen drivers and cross the line first. Heat three saw him come up narrowly short, but did end taking maximum championship points from all races in class.

The Festival Final was a longer twelve minute duration, so whilst having to think carefully about managing his own points race with the Rotax drivers, hopes were high of having enough time to get through right to the front again. Tandy didn’t disappoint – taking the overall lead with two laps to go and eventually finishing over seven seconds clear of his nearest Micromax rival.

To top an excellent weekend, another maximum point haul also extends Felix’s lead in the championship race with four rounds left to come.

Round 5 Hunts Kart Racing Club Micromax Championship

Kimbolton Kart Circuit, Hunts June 14th

Felix Tandy added to his season points haul at Kimbolton kart track this weekend with victories in all three heat races and second place in a thrilling final. The Wera Alliance Academy driver has now extended his lead in the championship points table with half the racing season now contested.

Round 4

Heat 1 Start Finish

            14th 1st

Heat 2 Start Finish

            3rd 1st

Heat 3 Start Finish

            5th 1st

Final Start Finish

            1st 2nd

Once again three heats and a final awaited the competitors on Sunday, in the warm Huntingdonshire summer conditions.

Heat 1, Tandy was made to work hard from the penultimate row of the grid, but a determined fight from the Bedfordshire racer saw him overtake each rival he came across, eventually sealing the victory with a last lap pass.

The following two heat races of the event had Felix placed higher up the order on the grid, enabling him to round out the heat stages with another victory in each – his sixth, and then seventh in a row, at the Kimbolton venue.

Starting on pole position for the final the odds looked good. An extremely close fight for the front two positions with kart #57 ensued, and with two laps to go a brave move on the inside saw the 57 kart spinning across the front of Tandy, forcing him to go wide to avoid contact. This led to the third position driver sneaking through on the inside to take the victory, Tandy happy to stay on track and pick up another final podium of the season.

With half the series now completed, Felix sits in a comfortable position atop the points standing. With two rounds enabled to become dropped scores in the final tally, however, a thrilling run in to the season end is almost assured.

Saturday practice at the fast and flowing Kimbolton kart circuit went extremely smoothly for Felix, working with his driver coach and mechanics to fine tune his driving and chassis set up for competition against a strong grid of drivers on Sunday’s race day.

That hard work certainly paid off, the random grid heat 1 saw Tandy launch from a favourable front row starting position, into the lead around the outside of the pole sitter into turn 1. From there a succession of fastest laps, lapping close to track record pace, allowed the #127 kart to pull away into a sizeable lead that was never contested, finishing the ten lap race with more than an eight second advantage over the field.

Heats 2 and 3 had Felix starting further back on the grids, but both time he was able to use his speed, and his tactics, to drive to the front of the pack to take a further two victories, with six and three second margins respectively.

With the grid for the Final being determined by the highest cumulative points scored from the heats, a pole position start was assured. However, with all the faster drivers starting together up front for the first time of the day, a much closer challenge was expected.

This proved to be the case, Felix was able to lead every lap of the final, but a strong challenge from behind meant any mistake would be punished. Felix managed the pressure well, and with three laps to go started easing away from his rival to complete a clean sweep of victories on the day.

This maximum points score sees Tandy move into the championship lead, in what is already becoming an excellent rookie campaign in his new racing category.

Champion kart racer Felix has, this year, moved into the competitive world of British Cadet class racing on tracks across the UK. After two years schooling within the sport in the Bambino category, 2026 marks this young driver’s first season in a class provided for 8-12 year old racers.

A steep learning curve was expected, but Bedfordshire born Tandy has provided the established competition some fierce competition already.

Round 1 at Kimbolton proved the experience was necessary, some solid pace netted decent mid pack Heat finishes in the circa 30 kart grids, but progress was made in a wet Final and an excellent top ten finish.

The switch, however, seemed to flick for Felix at Round 2 in February. With random drawn, reverse grid Heats, the #127 kart was able to show front running pace, a cool head, and was rewarded with two second place finishes. This meant as highest points scorer, he would start the all important Final on pole position. A thrilling race saw the top three drivers together for most of the race, Felix pulling off a daring move on the final corner to steal second position, his first podium finish in his new category. On top of this, the club awarded Tandy with their ‘Driver of the Day’ award, listing his “calm and collected performance throughout the day”.

Round 3 carried on his fantastic form, always around the front of the pack throughout the day’s three races. An attempt for the lead around the outside at the first corner on lap 7 saw Tandy briefly out front, but eventually he settled for a hard earn third place finish, and many more valuable championship points.

Round 4 of the series comes up next, on April 12th.

After a championship winning season in 2025 Felix Tandy is making the step up to the next level in karting and competing in the Cadet class of British karting with the Wera Alliance Racing Academy.

Felix has been setting the karting scene alight with his performances in the Super One MightE Bambino Championship culminating in him winning the championship in 2025 after 7 final victories. 9 pole positions. 17 heat wins. In 2026 he is moving up to the next level and pitting his skills in the Cadet class of British Karting.

Felix had this to say about carrying on with the Wera Alliance Racing Academy and his hopes for 2026.

“This year I’m moving up into the cadet class of racing. The karts are much bigger and faster than what I’m used to, which is fun, and I get to race on slick tyres for the first time! I’m really happy to join my friends again in the academy and support their races as well. I can’t wait to see my new livery on my kart, and hopefully get some more trophies!”

Dad Nick had this to say:

“We’re both delighted to once again form part of the driver academy, and continue to represent such loyal motorsport partners in Wera Tools and Alliance Racing.

Felix had such a wonderful and successful season last year as part of the group, it was so much fun to share that with the academy team and the other members.

2026 will see Felix step into the cadet age group of racers, taking on as many events as we can around the UK to build his experience and proudly display the Wera Alliance colours.”

Alliance Racing Team Principle Pete Osborne had this to say:

‘Fast Felix’ is already showing that he has all the qualities to become an exceptional racing driver. In his first season in the Wera Alliance Racing Academy he was winning on a regular basis and is already showing that he is up for the challenge of the next level after taking a second place in his first race in that category.

The Wera Alliance Racing Academy is driven by one core purpose: to support promising young talent and give them the platform, knowledge, and visibility needed to climb the ranks of the motorsport world. We feel that Felix fits that perfect and we look forward to seeing how he gets on this season.“

One of the drivers standout drivers on the 2025 season academy roster was Felix Tandy, son of 24 hour racing legend Nick Tandy. Felix has been setting the karting scene alight with his performances throughout the season in the Super One MightE Bambino Championship culminating in him winning the championship after 7 final victories. 9 pole positions. 17 heat wins.

What you might not have been aware of is that he has been doing all this in an electric kart.

We spoke to Nick about how the electric revolution makes sense in the karting world and if it is a more expensive way to race and whether or not is has improved the racing.

Apart from the means of propulsion what are the differences between a petrol and electric kart?

The electric karts run on exactly the same chassis and tyres as their petrol counterparts. The weight is slightly heavier due to the battery but the throttle pick up is instantaneous as you’d expect from an electrified vehicle

Is there much difference in cost between the two?

The cost of racing at the top level is much, much less. This is one of the reasons MSUK have adopted the electric class in bambino as their only certified series. In two stroke bambino, to compete, some drivers would have multiple engines that require multiple rebuilds per season. In electric, we had the same motor unit for two seasons and had zero rebuild costs

Are they easier to maintain?

Maintenance of the motor unit is minimal. However, this just gives more time to the team, or the parent, to focus more maintenance on the actual kart chassis. So hours don’t go down, you just end up focusing on the entire kart, not just the engine.

Has it had any effect on the racing?

The racing in the electric series has been the best we’ve ever seen. With slower fossil fueled classes, the gaps between the drivers based on how much power they have can often be huge. In electric, every single motor kit is tested to be identical to each other. So it produces extremely tight racing, and as a result, teaches the young drivers lots of race craft

Do you feel this is the way to go for the future of karting?

I’m also a petrol head. That’s why we love racing. But karting is probably the most adoptable form of motosport on the planet currently to benefit from electrified powertrains due to the short nature of the races. I see two and four stroke petrol being around for a long time, but once legislation demands, there is already a tried and tested alternative which keeps the racing spirit alive.

Is it safer than a petrol kart?

Both petrol and electric karts are both extremely safe to operate. However there are other parts of karting safety that I do believe can be improved, and the FIA and MSUK are looking at these topics. Wheel guards for example, whilst not part of the history of go karting, is an area where I believe driver safety can be improved.

Has Felix had to change his driving style for the electric kart?

Driving style doesn’t change at all. A fast driver is a fast driver. And I’ve seen that the kids learn a lot more due to not worrying about the difference in engine performance, instead focusing on their own driving capability.

Is it good for the environment going forward?

The drivers just want a good race, and in bambino the racing has been excellent in electric. For the wider world however it does make sense to have less emissions, but also less noise as many rural circuits suffer with noise complaints nowadays.
