About the academy
Since its launch in 2021, the Wera-Alliance Racing Academy has been driven by one core purpose: to support exceptional young talent, providing the platform, expertise, and visibility to reach the sport’s highest levels.
The Academy’s black and green liveries are recognisable across every grid, reflecting both the programme and the ambition of those who represent it. Through partnerships with organisations such as the Loughborough Collage student-led Rallycross Team, Mission Motorsport, M-Sport World Rally Team, and with Wera Tools UK as title sponsors of the British Formula 4 and British Kart Championships, the Academy sits at the heart of UK motorsport, creating significant development opportunities for drivers, mechanics, and the wider team.
Each year, the Academy continues to develop and grow, and the results speak for themselves. In 2025 alone, our competitors secured more than 100 trophies across 11 different championships, a testament to the dedication, talent, and hard work across the programme.
Founded by Pete Osborne (BTCC Team Owner and Team Principal of Alliance Racing, running the Napa Racing UK Touring Car Team) and Ian Walford (Managing Director of Wera Tools UK), the Academy was built on a shared vision, dedication, and a passion for motorsport. Together, they’ve built a programme committed to supporting young drivers as they progress through the highly competitive world of motorsport.
What the academy offers
The Academy leverages its bold and recognisable brand platform – from the liveries and teamwear to strong cross-industry recognition – to actively promote its drivers. Placing their performance and potential in front of major teams, sponsors, and key industry figures, the programme supports their progression towards the highest levels of motorsport.
Our drivers benefit from a wide network of experienced mentors and team members, all bringing valuable industry knowledge and insights. Among them, founders Pete and Ian contribute extensive racing and commercial expertise, helping guide each driver’s progression. In 2026, the Academy will introduce mentor-led development days, delivering focused support in areas such as securing sponsorship, building partner relationships, media training, and other essential skills required in the industry.
Within the programme, drivers form a close-knit group where they’re able to learn from one another and share experiences, often encouraging and supporting each other during race weekends. We place a strong emphasis on brining the Academy together and creating a welcoming environment that feels like family.
Away from the track, drivers have the opportunity to attend major industry events, including the Goodwood Festival of Speed and the Race of Remembrance. These occasions bring Academy members and partners together and provide the chance to experience the impressive Wera Tools UK stands and brand presentation. They also offer valuable opportunities for media exposure and content creation, helping each driver build their profile.
